[WHAT DO PARENTS THINK ABOUT THIS BOOK?]

“My kids love the Kumon Maze series. Maze Around the World is the hardest"

[THE AIMS AND PURPOSE OF THIS BOOK]

This book gives your child the opportunity to develop his or her manual dexterity and pencil-control skills by tracing lines through mazes following clear directional indicators. Children love to learn about new place, and they will enjoy these mazes full of geographical landmarks and famous buildings from around the world. By using the world map on the last page of this book, children can also learn more about geography and where these landmarks are in the world.

Mazes allow your child to draw lines creatively and thereby practice the pencil skills necessary for good handwriting. This practice will also help your child acquire the ability to concentrate, which is a crucial study skill.

When children work on a maze, they usually follow this pattern:
• They view the whole maze, and then look closely at the individual parts.
• They analyze the maze to find the way to the exit.
• They physically draw a line from the entrance to the exit on the maze.
Therefore, mazes help children develop their ability to analyze what they see and then physically act upon their understanding.

In the beginning, children will use a “trial and error” method to find their way from entrance point to the exit point of the maze. In time, they will be able to more efficiently gauge the proper rout through the maze. Through this process, they will develop the ability to reason and analyze – abilities that are necessary precursors to all learning.
