(The Aims And Purpose Of This Book)
This book is designed to introduce your child to the use of a writing utensil and teach him or her
color recognition. In the beginning, don't worry if your child does not draw neatly, or draws lines
outside of the paths or the white area on the page — it's more important for him or her to enjoy the
process of drawing and using a crayon.

While selecting the color of crayons for each activity, your child will become familiar with the names
of colors. However, this book does not require your child to use the specified colors, although it
generally recommends a crayon color that is suitable for completing each activity. Your child will find
it more enjoyable to first draw with crayons without worrying about using a specific color. Once your
child is used to drawing with crayons, have him or her use the color of crayon specified on each
page so that he or she can improve the color name awareness skill.

Your child will start by scribbling over a large space, and will move to drawing various kinds of lines
along the paths provided. As the pages progress, the width of the path becomes narrower, the
length becomes longer, and the shapes gradually become more challenging. In the latter part of this
book, your child will draw to complete a picture by adding lines, patterns, or shapes. And finally, your
child will draw a picture of his or her favorite thing. Through these activities your child will have fun
while developing his or her ability to control a crayon, which leads to improvement of the use of a
pencil and further writing skills.
