This book is the initial book in the Kumon’s Workbook series, and it is especially designed for young children

This book gives your child the opportunity to practice basic pencil-control skills. It will help your child develop the ability to use a pencil easily by practicing line drawing. Such practice leads to the ability to write letters and numbers.

Your child will start with drawing straight vertical lines, and will move gradually to drawing more challenging lines, such as curved lines, zigzag lines and diagonal lines. The width of the line becomes narrower, and the length becomes longer, little by little. With this kind of practice, your child will become ready to write letters and numbers.

Your child will enjoy drawing lines in the make-believe world of play. Through drawing, your child will be able to acquire basic pencil-control skills. If he or she has trouble drawing the lines, motivate your child by creating a story based on the illustrations on the page. Help your child draw the lines, if necessary.
