= About this Book =
Kumon Thinking Skills Pre-K is designed to develop your child’s thinking skills in a step-by-step manner. There are four sections in this workbook: Spatial Reasoning, Logic, Same and Different, and Creativity.

These thinking skills are important to your child’s development. Through fun activities your child will learn skills that will help him or her succeed in school and beyond. Activities in this workbook include: tracing and mazes; matching shapes, colors, parts, and pairs; comparing speed; patterns; real or pretend puzzles; drawing animals, scenes, and completing scenes.

This workbook is a bind-up of the original four titles in our Thinking Skills Pre-K series. There are direction pages at the start of each section and answer keys at the end of each section. The order of the sections was chosen with the Kumon Method in mind. Please have your child complete the sections in order.

= The Aim and Purpose of the Book =
Kumon Thinking Skills Workbooks were developed in coordination with the Kumon Method, a learning system that has helped children master math and reading skills for over 50 years. Each section in this book offers engaging activities designed to promote the development of thinking skills that are crucial for a lifetime of success.

The goal of the Kumon Method is to help children develop their abilities beyond their age and grade level. With Kumon, children begin working at a level that matches their abilities and progress through a logical, step-by-step sequence of exercises, reviewing concepts as needed until they again mastery. The Kumon program starts with developing fine motor skills so that children can hold and use a pencil properly, followed by writing letters and numbers. Another way children can start developing their abilities is through practicing thinking skills such as understanding, interpreting, and applying information. Kumon Thinking Skills Pre-K is based on this second approach.

At Kumon, we believe in inspiring all children with a love of learning. That’s why we designed this workbook as a way to help children improve their thinking skills while having fun, rather than as an assessment tool. We suggest you use the answer key in each section to review your child’s answers and, for any that are incorrect, encourage your child to try again. Offer praise for your child’s hard work even if he or she has trouble answering the question correctly. This approach will help your child cultivate a positive attitude toward learning.
