(The Aims And Purpose Of This Book)
If your child can recognize and write simple sentences like "The dog runs," then he or she is ready
to work on the more complicated sentences in this book. By starting with the familiar nouns and
verbs that were taught in My book of Simple Sentences, this book will gradually help your child add
more sophisticated structure to his or her sentences.
At first, your child will learn adjectives paired with their opposites. After practicing these adjective
pairs with two different nouns, your child will practice sentences using these adjectives and nouns.
Slowly, your child will understand how to make sentences like "The big dog runs."
This book will then introduce some wrinkles to this basic sentence in order to help them understand
how to build sentences. First, your child will learn how to use the "to be" verb, and will transition
slowly from "The big dog runs," to "The dog is big." The concept of an irregular verb is very difficult,
and your child should be congratulated once he or she understands these new sentences.
Later, your child will tackle sentences with two adjectives.
The next section will help children understand the plural version of "to be" and introduce them to sentences like "The grapes are sour." Finally, your child will encounter adjectives used to compare different objects. By using "long"
"longer," and "longest," your child will be able to use complicated sentences to compare objects. He or she will also understand exactly what and adjective does, and how it should be used.
